About David van der Want![]() David van der Want is a Clinical Psychologist in Cape Town I am a Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Cape Town South Africa. My qualifications - a BA (Wits) 1990, BA Hons (Applied Psychology) (RAU) 1991 and MA Clinical Psychology (RAU) 1993. This last qualification cum laude. I have been registered as a Clinical Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa since January 1994. Since this time I have worked as a psychologist in a variety of different contexts. I spent 18 months working in the Human Resources division of a large financial services organisation. From there I moved into the academic world, spending 2 years at the East London satellite campus of Rhodes University and after that 5 years in the Department of Psychology at the University of Pretoria where I was involved with the MA Clinical Psychology course as well as post and under graduate teaching. Throughout this period I maintained a part time private practice, ran supervision groups for intern psychologists, led interpersonal psychotherapy groups with recovering addicts, worked as a supervisor of volunteer counsellors at a walk in and telephonic crisis centre and a variety of other professionally oriented activities. In April 2002 I moved to Cape Town and, using rooms in the association of psychologists at Crescent Clinic, began working in full time private practice. During this time I have also led training groups at the South African College of Applied Psychology. |
